Remember That Time We Almost Sold Our House?

 photo 759FB091-A7CB-455D-BE3C-9998FE6AEAA9_zpsfslrspga.gif

I guess when you post something like "Hey, we're selling our house!", you should probably follow it up with an update of some sort to let people (especially family) know what the heck is going on in your life.

Well, we had some open houses and after about a month on the market, we received an offer.  We were so sad/excited and couldn't believe it was actually happening and that we had to find a rental and start organizing and packing!  We found a larger rental in our same neighborhood which we planned to share with JB's brother, and were starting to get excited about our plans to move.

Only, the day they were supposed to come and do their inspections, we instead received an email from their agent that they wanted to cancel the contract.  Apparently this buyer wasn't old enough to make her own decisions and her parents came in and told her she was making a hasty decision and should keep looking....

Well then...

We got kind of discouraged, but kept in on the market and had a few more open houses.  A few people came back and looked at it, but still no offers.  During this time, JB got a promotion at work, and we had discussed just having his brother rent a room from us (since we were all going to rent a place together anyway), which would still allow us to be paying off some things and building our savings while avoiding the whole moving fiasco.  We were also able to re-finance the house and lower our payment a couple hundred dollars.

So, there you have it.  We're staying.

My BIL (and his trusty furry sidekick, Larry) will be moving in this weekend and before they do we have to relocate the office to the loft upstairs and clean out the attic.  Which basically all has to be done, like, yesterday.  Works out well that JB is working split shifts right now because it gives me a chance to be productive in the evenings instead of snuggling on the couch watching Dexter on Netflix (we are currently at the beginning of season 6, so don't ruin anything for me, kthanks).

I have a couple of other things to catch up on, so maybe I will be doing some blogging while JB is working in the evenings too.  :)

Until then...

For Sale

Yesterday I posted this picture on Instagram:

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I have since posted a photo home tour and the flyer for the sale of our home on Facebook.  I have been flooded with texts, comments, and messages asking why we are selling and where we are going, so I thought I thought I would just take care of answering those questions here.

First, I would like to clarify that in no way are we selling because we HAVE TO.  We are not under financial strain.  In fact, our financial position is the best it's been since we moved into the home we built from the ground up.  Given the recent market history and the fact that a lot of people have had to short sale or foreclose their home, that's where people's minds automatically go.  Fortunately for us, that is not the case.

It just so happens that the market in our area right now is really good.  And since we have been in our home for just over 3.5 years with a low interest rate, we are in a position to increase our financial position even more by selling our home.  After all, equity is just money on paper...

This was by no means an easy decision, as we have been discussing it for quite a while now.  WE love, LOVE, love this house.  We watched this house go from a piece of paper, to a foundation, to our first home together.  We chose the color of the walls and cupboards, the size of the tile, selected the slab of granite for our counter tops.  JB proposed to me in this house.  We had our rehearsal dinner in this house.  My bridesmaids and I got ready on our wedding day in this house.  We learned how to live together here and make decisions for our future together here, which has led us to where we are now.  We have discussed our goals, plans, dreams, etc.  And in the end, taking all factors into consideration, this is a great opportunity for us prepare for whatever opportunities may come our way (professional, recreational, or otherwise).

There are some that may think that we are moving backwards in the social progression of marriage -> home -> babies -> retirement, but that is subjective, and JB and I don't feel that way.  We feel like we have the opportunity to reset and rediscover our passions and future plans.  Some people think that this amazing home we have now is never going to come around again.  But maybe something better will?

The other question I have been getting a lot is "Where are you going?".  We currently don't have any plans to leave the area as we are both still employed here, our families are here, and we love the community we live in.  Based on our research, we should be able to rent something suitable in the same area for $500-$800 less per month.  You read that right.  How do you deny that fact?  Lower rent, lower utilities, and debt free?

Sign. Me.Up.

Now we just need someone to buy the house....

The Truth About My Absence

Dun - dun - duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Sounds so dramatic, I know. But it's pretty simple. And I'm a little embarrassed to admit it...

You might have noticed that me falling off the blogging cliff somewhat coincided with me switching jobs. Let's be honest here, my last job was cake. I was pretty much on auto-pilot. Could I have been doing more? Probably Totally. Was anyone noticing what I was doing, asking for a deliverable, or giving me assignments? No. To be honest, I spent a VERY LARGE portion of my time on facebook, reading blogs, and writing my own posts. It was so easy to pull pics from Facebook and my phone to whip up a quick post for the world to read.

But then one day, my picasa space was full (GASP!!) and I wasn't about to pay for more.  So I did some asking around and found that photobucket was the go-to for some of my blogging friends, and since I already had an account, that was the route I chose.  I started to notice that my work computer didn't like photobucket so much, so I had to usually put everything on there from my iPad, then put all of the links into the blog via my iPad, save the post, then go on the computer and format and write.  Such a huge pain in the ass.  I'm all about quick and efficient and this wasn't making blogging easy for me.

Fast forward to the new job.  Lot's to learn, lots to do, and lots of time-sensitive deliverables.  I was enjoying being busy, but not really enjoying the lack of time I had for blogging.  All social media sites are also blocked which is a blessing and a curse.  Helps with the time management, but leaves me with less time to cyber-stalk and keep up on the lives of people I never talk to....

I also can't access photobucket...

I don't have a lot of time outside of work with my schedule looking something like this on a daily basis:

6am 7am - Wake-up
9am - 5:30pm - Work
6:30 - 7:30pm - Crossfit
8pm - Dinner/shower/nurture marriage
10/10:30pm - Bed

On the weekends I am either out living life or maxin/relaxin at home and the thought of putting together a blog post seems like more work/time than I am willing to invest.  I mean, it's not like I don't have anything to blog about.  I could tell you about:

  • The most amazing, hopefully not once-in-a-lifetime vacation we took
  • My niece who is growing so fast!
  • My first exercise-related injury
  • Returning from the 6.5 weeks of workouts I missed due to vacation/injury
  • My obsession with Pitch Perfect/Skylar Astin
  • My impromptu, spur-of-the-moment trip to visit my Ravey-Poo
  • And the rest of our fun-filled summer
So if anyone has any suggestions for an easier way to host/post pics and write blogs that would be fantastic.  Otherwise I will be posting mostly words and no pics if I do post at all.

Also, I need a serious redesign around here, so suggestions are welcome on that as well.

Thanks!!

P.S. Use the button at the top right of my bloggity to follow me on bloglovin'.  You know, in case I do ever decide to write another blog post, you won't miss it.

Life Lately...

My apologies up front for those of you that already follow me on Insta, since this is basically a dump from my Instagram pics and we all know how much everyone loves that. If you aren't already following me, now would be a good time to use that link over there to do so :)

Last Saturday I went to the gym to get my InBody done. More on that tomorrow. While I was there, I stuck around a bit for the 13.5 open WOD to support some of my new gym homies as they attempted to qualify for regionals.

They make everything looks so easy!

I left early to go to my friend's mom's memorial service. While I was there, I visited a couple of old friends, Heather and Lisa Jane.

 photo ED0EA9DE-E0BE-4784-B5FD-2DA8FF512EFE-8209-0000031D7D6B068B_zpsf6ec8e69.jpg

Heather was in my class and on the cheer squad with me freshman and sophomore year before she passed away from meningitis. That shit is no joke. We all had to go to the doctor and get examined and take precautionary anti-biotics that turned our pee orange. We may or may not have gone in the bathrooms at school together and peed in every toilet and not flushed them...

It was a sad, sad day that changed our lives forever.

Lisa Jane was a year younger than us and she passed away during my senior year in a car accident. We danced at the same studio when we were younger and she was on the cheer squad as well. All I remember thinking when I got that phone call was, "I can't do this again." They buried her right next to Heather. Sometimes we would skip class and go say hi and just sit with them. It had been a very long time since I had been to see them, so even though it wasn't the best of circumstances, it was good to see them again and say hello.

That night I celebrated a friend's 30th birthday. Her boyfriend and sister threw this great party for her downtown in a penthouse building with cocktails and appetizers and a very entertaining slideshow. Somehow I managed to avoid taking a pic with the birthday girl, but I did get a couple of pics to prove I was there.

You may or may not have noticed that I was in a car accident yesterday. My poor Silver Bullet is officially totaled. Figures since I just paid her off in September, right? My friend tried to point out the bright side that I escaped without any injuries. So I sent him this picture and told him he was very wrong:

 photo 0C56C8CC-D508-4167-99D9-663B688D023A-8209-0000031D61D01667_zpsea6b1a5f.jpg

I was just admiring my nails in the shower yesterday morning too. They were all the same length which is very excited and a difficult feat. Unfortunately, my car had more than a broken pinky nail with a bruise...

 photo CCEF0C06-27DB-4B11-ABC7-5F804062AC78-8209-0000031D5FC00D26_zpscb4eccc7.jpg

Don't mind my finger blur, I'm totally a professional photog. I had to wait 45 minutes for the tow truck driver to come rescue me fromt he ghetto and the whole ride to the body shop I was forced to look at this:

 photo 8E860897-9D07-4254-8E6E-36E215A1B678-8209-0000031D63EB01A6_zpsf2a2bdc0.jpg

So, so sad.

Fortunately, like a good neighber, State Farm was there. I got my car to the body shop, got a rental car (covered) and got to work within 3 hours of the accident. A few hours later they called me with the news that my car was totaled, but they were going to give me a decent amount for it. So now I have to go buy a new car. Usually very exciting, but I like to do things on my terms and I was very happy not having a car payment so I could throw that money at paying off some debt. Later, my friend sent me this...

I died laughing. So amazing! And then my brother tried to "support" me with his "advice", all the while he was receiving jokes from his friend and laughing behine my back...

 photo 28077453-8D73-407D-8B35-BEF6DE9F6FBA-8209-0000031D65955293_zps451e755f.jpg

In all seriousness, I am very fortunate to have walked away with only a broken nail. The other driver was not injured, thanks to his giant Lincoln Navigator that ate the front of my car. Safe following distances and no distractions, kids! Not even coffee!! I was putting mine back in the cup holder and when I looked up, BAM! So be careful. My instincts made me swerve into the carpool lane to avoid eating his bumper head on and I am beyond fortunate there was no one coming in that lane because it could have been much more serious and involved many more people. I have all my guardian angels to thank for that one. Good lookin' out.

That's enough excitement for one post. Come back tomorrow for some crossfit updates!

Happy 60th Birthday Daddy!!

Yes, I still call him Daddy. And yes, today he turns 60! We had a partay for him on Saturday night. Friends and family were in abundance for a NASCAR-themed event.

Photo-collages at parties are the best! I never realized how much I looked like my dad until I go older and someone pointed it out with a picture from my college graduation party. Looking at these old pics of him, I see it even more. That top right pic, the glamour shot? My favorite picture of my father that has ever been taken. He's so blue steel in that picture. I tell so many people about that picture and I am so glad it's still around in all its glory.

Who Has Two Thumbs & A New J-O-B?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
Circa Vegas 2006

THIS GIRL!!!!  Holla holla!!

I have been contacted by the same recruiter for different positions throughout the year, but I was content where I was and none of the positions were appealing to me and they were all farther from home.  My commute is already 45 minuites each way, so I was definitely going to be moving closer to home if I was going to leave my current position.

Let me just say that the company I work for is wonderful.  In every class I have taken for business or HR, my current company does everything they say you should do.  As an employee-owned firm, they go to great lengths to over-communicate and maintain transparency in their operations.  They have afforded me many development opportunities over the past 5 years, including paying for my masters degree and assisting my efforts to get SPHR certified.

Obviously there is a reason I entertained a meeting with the recruiter regarding this new position...

This was my second HR related job out of college and although I started as an HR Assistant, I was quickly promoted to the role of HR Manager (Go me!).  With the corporate office being in the middle of the country, I have been merely pushing down the processes and procedures as set forth from the mother ship.  I have not been able to gain much experience or really dive into the many facets of HR and have spent most of the last 5 years dealing with mainly administrative processes as they relate to HR and handling employee relations issues.  I have gained some great knowledge in these areas, but I feel that in order to become a well-rounded HR professional and be able to move forward in my career, I need to get this experience sooner than later.

This new position is still the role of HR Manager, but is for a much smaller company that has not had a separate HR Manager to this date.  They have had someone that wears many different hats, one of them being HR, but now that they are growing, they realize they need to put someone in place that can dive into all of these things and be strictly dedicated to HR.

That person is going to be me!!!

I am so, so sad to be leaving behind the friends I have made over the past 5 years.  It has taken a long time to build some of these relationships and grow into my role here.  I am going to miss my work neighbors and work besties soooooooooooooooo much!  That being said, I am so excited for this next chapter in my life and career.  I will be hands on in all areas of HR Management and I will be closer to home!

Here's to 2013 and new beginnings!!

Birthday Bonanza

Last year we had our first joint birthday bash since JB's birthday is on January 13th and mine is on stupid Christmas Day and most of our friends are available in mid-January as opposed to holiday season.  Last year was such a hit (aside from JB blacking out and vomiting) we decided to do it again this year!

I gave up.

Nachos were eaten, peer pong was played, lots of laughs were had...oh, and this happened...

I would have won if that stupid beer wasn't ice cold!  Do you see the mountains on that can?  BLUE.  I love that I tried to grab on to him as he was galloping back to keep him from winning.  He definitely doesn't remember any of that.

Thanks to all of our friends and their gifts, our bar is going to be stocked up for the next year!  We are trying to avoid booze at all costs and now we have a million bottles of wine and booze and tons o beer.

Can't wait til next year!

Good night!  BIL can sleep ANYWHERE...you think I'm exaggerating?

Okay, so her name is Lucy Lee Vera M. Isn't she the cutest? I mean, THOSE CHEEKS! She is the third girl for one of my work besties, Monica, aka Jobin. She blogs her craftscapades over at The Painted Pisces.

Lucy Lee Vera (I've been calling her Lulu since I found out what they were naming her) was born on Monday, January 7th at 8:41pm. At 20.5" and 8lbs 10oz, she is the biggest baby that Jobin has birthed. Probably because she was marinating for an extra week! She was expected January 1st.

I haven't met her yet so all you get are the pics that mama Jobes sent me. I will definitely post more when I finally meet her.

Welcome to the world, Lulu!!!

"When Are You Having Babies?"

Aaaaaaaaaah, the most favorite question of every newly married couple that comes from every direction possible.  Parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, extended family; you name it, they're asking.  Many blogs that I read follow the same evolution; moving in together, engagement, wedding planning, newlyweds, starting a family, trials and tribulations of motherhood.  If you read some of the same blogs I do, I'm sure this is not the first time you have read about this topic.  I can gurantee you, it won't be the last.  However, everyone has a different answer to this question.

So what are we telling people?  I pretty much have it recorded on my phone and anytime someone asks, I just play the recording for them.  Okay, that's a lie, but it's a damn good idea.  Our answer goes a little something like this:

We are currently in the process of paying off our wedding debt.  Once we have this paid off, we would like to spend some time actually enjoying the income we have and building our savings before we have to spend it all on baby supplies, schooling, daycare, etc.  We are also at a point in our careers where the next few years are critical in moving up and getting to where we would like to be.  We are currently undecided either way on starting a family.  There are several aspects that interest us, but there are others that aren't so appealing at this point in time.  When we are at a place where we feel like sleeping through the night, sleeping in on weekends, and doing whatever we want whenever we want to do it without a second thought is no longer appealing to us, we will think about starting a family.

No matter what your opinion is on this topic, or how the above statement makes you feel, people should really try to keep the perspective that this is a very personal choice and everyone makes their choice for very personal reasons.  Right now, we are honest enough with ourselves to know that we are selfish.  And that's our perogative.

Many, many years ago, I had everything planned out.  I was in a long-term relationship at the time and I saw myself married by 26, first kid at 28, second kid at 30 and then we would be done.  After that relationship ended, I really came into my own and realized that I had different priorities and wanted different things in my life.  I still kind of told myself that after I was married, I would wait at least a year or two before starting a family.  Looking back now, I feel like I was doing what a lot of people do.  I wasn't giving myself a choice about a family.  I was just going with the "natural progression" that society places on us.  But if I really stopped and thought about it and learned from the experience of my friends and family, and took into account all that being a mother entails, maybe it's not in my natural progression.  Or maybe, just maybe, I'm not there yet.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good baby fix as much as the next chick.  And I am over the moon for my niece.  I just know that when she starts throwing a fit, that's my cue to hand her over and peace out.  Do I get that being a mother is the most rewarding experience the universe has to offer?  Sure.  Do I also get that it's the most difficult job out there?  Definitely.  And I have my friends and family to thank for both of those things.  I try to make all of life's important decisions with all of the information I have available to me, and the experience of others is great research.

You're not getting any younger.
You're never going to be ready.
M needs a cousin to play with.
Aren't you dying to know how gorgeous your babies would be?
So-and-so needs a friend
I need a grandbaby
It's what you DO.

All of those things may be true, but to us, they are not reasons to just start a family.  My response is usually, "That's great, are you going to pay to raise this child?  Are you going to come over and get up with it in the middle of the night or stay with it on the weekends when we want to go out of town?  No?  Okay great, so then we'll just go ahead and wait on that one."  To some people, getting married is just the step that comes before babies.  So, in order to get the babies, you have to get married.  To me, marriage is finding someone that compliments you well, that you love spending time with, and that you can rely on to get through the good an bad times with.  Having a baby changes the entire dynamic.  Some people love their partner even more after a baby, others find out that they were never on the same page about things after the wedding and that shows through much more when you have another human being to make a priority.

Every so often the topic of babies comes up between us and we have remained on the same page.  I know that JB thinks about carrying on the family name and would love to have his own little science experiment and someday coach a soccer team, and he would be an AMAZING father.  And I would be lying if I said I have never thought to myself, "I can't wait to experience pregnancy and have a little human that wants me more than anyone else in the world."  But that time for us is not now.  And we don't know when it will be.  And we are OKAY with that.

Now if we could just get everyone else on the same page....
