Fitness Friday - I Drank The Kool-Aid

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I am now a member of the Crossfit cult community....

I don't know if I have ever addressed my feelings about this on le blog, but I have always been a little apprehensive.  Knowing what I have learned through my husband, who is a corrective exercise specialist, there is a lot to be done wrong in the world of crossfit.

As with any "fad" or "new craze" out there, there are people that jump on the bandwagon to get a piece of the pie.  Where there are people obsessed with a product or service, there is plenty of money to be made.  Depending how you go about it, opening up your own Crossfit gym, or Box, doesn't take a ton of start-up capital.  Some people start theirs in their garage.  All you need is a certification and a group of people to sell your service to.  Unfortunately with a lesser business model in crossfit, the owner isn't the one that gets hurt.  It's usually the client.

Done the right way, Crossfit can be awesome and empower you to feel confidence in finding a strength you never knew you had and doing things you never dreamed possible.  Done the wrong way, it can cause injury.  Improper form and over-use without rest/recovery/release can cause the body to break down, which puts you even further from the goal you initially set out to achieve.

I went to high school with Blair.  Take a moment to click on the link and see how awesome he is.

You're welcome.

Quite the physical specimen and also a really nice guy.  After he came back from college overseas, I suggested he look into getting a job with my husband, enhancing the future of fitness professionals.  He also decided to open his own Crossfit gym which happened to be on my way to/from work.  His approach to Crossfit is phenomenal.  JB and I went to the open house and I was really excited to come check it out once it opened.

But then I got scared.

I have major anxiety about going into gyms alone.  Doing most things alone, really.  But especially gyms.  If you have been reading my blog for any length of time this may come as a shock to you.  I hate people thinking I don't know what I am doing, and even worse, ACTUALLY not knowing what I am doing.  Instead of realizing that everyone there is focusing on their own workouts and fitness goals, for some reason I always think they have nothing better to do than observe and judge my every move...

The next couple of years passed and I never went in to work out at the gym.  See, people who do Crossfit are seen as elite athletes in my (and most people's) book(s).  The olympic lifting mixed with serious metabolic conditioning is not something any old Joe Schmoe can just power through on his first run.  It was always something that intrigued me though.  The competetive part of it speaks to me.  I am always striving to be a better version of myself, and if I happen to be better than some other people in my class, well, good for me.  I also hated knowing that I would go in knowing no one, and there would already be a camaraderie amongst the members.

The problem is, you have to start somewhere, which means you have to actually START.  Knowing the issues that can arise from a poorly trained coach and a poorly laid out program, I didn't just want to join a random Box.

And you know me and my Groupon/Living Social deals.

Blair had now expanded to three gyms and had a promo running for the one closest to my house, so I bought it.  I tried like hell to get a buddy to join me and no one would.  Not a single soul.  Bitches.  I knew I needed to wait out the other people that had bought the deal as I didn't want to deal with the crowds these things tend to bring in.  But mostly, I was stalling.

I stalled until I could stall no more.  I do have a trip to Greece coming, you know?  I spent the months of January and February getting my nutrition back on track and told myself come March 1st, I was going in.  I sent Blair an email to make sure that starting on a Friday wouldn't be a problem and he told me to go for it.  And I did.

I'm pretty sure I sweat more sitting in the car waiting to go into the gym than I did during that first workout.  I got there early and just sat in my car surveying the gym, strategizing my plan of attack.  I noticed that the "front desk" was actually in the back of the gym and I would have to walk across the entire workout floor just to get to someone who could help me sign my waiver to get started.  As the minutes ticked down, I became increasingly more anxious and worked up.  By the time I got in there, I was shaking so bad I could barely fill out the paperwork they gave me.

So ridiculous.

Long story long, I did it.  I got started that night and as each day went by I met another person.  I was still uneasy and anxious as I walked into the gym.  Planning my timing just right so I didn't have to stand around too long before the workout, with a bunch of people I didn't know who all knew each other.  I made it through my five days of "on-ramp", each day learning another lifting technique with proper form, new terminology and movements, and was finally cleared for Level 1; which meant I could work out with the general population who already knew what they were doing.

These people?  These elite athletes?  They are pretty cool people.  Very supportive and kind and welcoming.  I guess when you are all battling a common enemy (the workout), it's easier to join forces and support one another.  Seeing people achieve a new personal record on a lift or master a new skill is something worth celebrating and congratulating.  Knowing how hard it is to get through a particular workout makes you want to cheer that next person on who is trying to finish.  Knowing how overwhelming it can be to be the new person, an outsider, makes you want to introduce yourself to new faces.

Last night I bit the bullet and signed up for the next three months.  I know that I won't be able to achieve what I am hoping for in the next week, or next month for that matter.  I am already stronger and am seeing improvements in different movements.  My dance/gymnastics background has really helped out with balance and my previous experience with personal trainers and weight lifting has come in handy as well.  I love the feeling of achievement I have after a workout, even if it wasn't my best.  I know that I will improve over time.

So for the next three months I will be driving all of my FB friends crazy with my check-ins at Crossfit Anywhere Roseville and using Fitness Friday to check in on my progress.  Next week I will try to post some of my initial stats that I am currently tracking on my phone.

Have you ever done Crossfit?  What did you think?

Breezy Goes North - A Match Made in Blog Heaven, Part 3

Welcome back for our final installment of Breezy Goes North!! Can I get an AMEN??  If you missed parts 1 & 2, go check them out, I'll wait.

We left off with way too many adult beverages being consumed, leading to waking up with another slight hangover. This was the day we would head 3.5 hours back to Portland for another date night and a day of bumming around Portland before I had to head back to Sac.

After we got our bearings and got ready and packed, we hit the road. At this point there was no worry about filling another 3.5 hours of time with conversation because we felt like we had known each other for our entire lifetimes. We got checked into our fantasy suite room at the Marriott and hit up the concierge lounge for some apps to go with the cocktails we brought for the room. After more deep conversations, this time about religion, we headed out for a lovely dinner at Varitable Quandary, or VQ.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel bar for some more drinks and conversation.

And then this happened...

Raven joined Vine, so we had the waitress take a video of us taking more duck fart shots. Little did I know what Raven had planned. The timing of the video could not have been more perfect. I laugh so hard whenever I watch it. Simply amazing.

The next day we dragged our haggard asses out of bed and got read for our day of bumming around Portland. We had lunch at this amazing cafe and then walked from one end of town to the other in search of Voodoo Donuts. And donuts we did find.

After we returned from our trip to the donut shop, reality started sinking in that we only had a couple of hours left before my departure. We made our way back to the airport where we exchanged a magical hug and promises that it wouldn't be too long before we saw each other again. Since crying makes Ravey-poo uncomfortable, I waited until she was out of sight to shed a tear or two. It was so hard to leave this person I felt had become such a huge part of my life in such a short period of time.

As I relayed this story to my sister the other day, I told her "If I weren't married and this had been someone of the opposite sex, I would probably consider relocating my life to Tri-Cities." LOL! I have read about other bloggers' experiences with meeting each other, but never really understood what they felt until I experienced it for myself. I would love nothing more than to be just a short drive from Raven so we could share a cup of coffee or a cocktail on a regular basis. JB and I are going to try our hardest to make it back there for the boat races this summer, and supposedly Raven and Rob will be heading my way to visit a new baby in the family. All I know is our next meeting can't happen soon enough!

Breezy Goes North - A Match Made in Blog Heaven, Part 2

Day 2 (read day 1 here) in the Tri-Cities was nothing short of domestic bliss with these folks, minus Rob cuz he was fishing...

 photo fam_zps539a67f8.jpg

The guest room at the Smith Manor consists of a bed in a loft nook just outside of the bedroom doors of Raven's two angel babies. Even sleeping with my earplugs in, I was awakened by the shrill screams from Coltie in the middle of the night. Raven had warned me that if anyone woke up crying in the middle of the night, she would be there to take care of it, so not to worry. It still scared the shit out of me.

I awoke in the morning to Gunner hopping up on the bed asking me who I was. I informed him that I was a friend of his mother's and that he should go see her with any questions. I promptly dozed off, only to be interrupted a short while later by the same adorable child, this time in a towel, asking me to get up and come play race cars with him. How could I resist.

I headed downstairs to find Raven passed out in her bed with Coltie sitting next to her watching cartoons. She informed me that Colt had thrown up in his crib in the middle of the night and proceeded to puke a few more times in her bed after she brought him downstairs. Poor guy. He seemed to be fine that morning though, so all was well. As soon as she introduced me to him, he promptly climbed out of the bed and into my lap. Both kids took to me immediately, actually. It was pretty adorable.

 photo portland26_zps3c275e50.jpg

We took Gunner to school and then headed back home for a couple of hours to have breakfast and coffee, before returning to pick him up.

 photo 75840_4196635594575_660495913_n_zps33464e68.jpg

After we picked up G-Man, we ran a couple of errands, like returning a chicken costume to the party rental store, and dropping off a puke-covered duvet at the dry cleaners.

When we got back to the house, Raven showed me how to bring the garbage can up from the curb, lazy-chick style:

I knew I only had a small window of time to get my fitness on before we started our day drinking, so I showed the boys how to work it out.

 photo portland25_zps71726721.jpg

Once I got my workout out of the way, we put the boys down for their naps and I experienced some Dr. Phil with a cocktail, Raven-style.

Dude's in-laws tried to straight up kill him in their garage. That shit cray!

After a couple of hours of lounging, we decided to get off our asses and start getting ready. Raven was taking me to the country club for dinner, so I had to look legit. After the boys woke up from their nap, Mama Piper came over to get the boys so we could have date night. We enjoyed dinner at the country club, where Ravey-Poo photo lurked me in the bathroom.

 photo 11_zpsa7d8157d.jpg

Dinner was followed by a drink or two at a local bar. Pretty sure it was college night. The drinks were weak and the crowd was young, so we took our bad selves home to continue the party our way.

The rest of the night got a little fuzzy, but I think there was more trashy television and deep conversations before crashing out for the night.

Saturday we woke up slightly hungover. We stopped by her sister's house to drop something off and see Poppy, the most perfect little baby you will ever see.

 photo 63F49C9F-AF4F-4516-9A12-8F2AC096531C-4928-000001F6D0569B6F_zpsd2650b87.jpg

We met Mama Piper to pick up the boys and then headed to the grocery store to stock up on stuff to make wraps and pizza, plus we were out of booze. The kids were running crazy through the store and my blood pressure was through the roof by the time we got out of there. I honestly don't know how she does it. It was pretty close to nap time, we hadn't eaten yet, and there may have been a minor meltdown in the parking lot...

We got home and I promptly made wraps and adult beverages while Raven put the boys down for their naps.

 photo bobs2_zps017ec359.jpg

I have been obsessed with these things since I left Kennewick and have eaten my weight in them. So goooooooooood.

After naptime there was more playing, Pocoyo, screaming, crying for no reason, looking through photo album after photo album of Raven's ridiculous photo shoots (girl loves a camera...), jumping on the trampoline, taking a tour of their yacht boat, playing with the puppy, consuming cocktails (adults only), and bath time (kids only) before bedtime.

 photo portland27_zps27141001.jpg

Once we put the kids to bed, Raven made me one of her famous veggie pizzas on the traeger.

 photo 16888_3820362067972_1606182065_n_zps43e6fc96.jpg

Raven assumed her position in her chair, with her computer, and the puppy by her side while we drank, watched more amazing television, continued to pause the TV to have in-depth conversations about society, politics, relationships, blogging, etc., and stuff our faces with pizza until bedtime.

Like I said, domestic bliss!

Check back later this week for my final recap...our overnight in the fantasy suite Portland!

Breezy Goes North - A Match Made in Blog Heaven, Part 1

I am fully aware that this post is long overdue. I figured I owed it to everyone to get this one out there first and then I can do a catch-up post for all of the other happenings in my life.

In order to keep this from being the longest post in the history of blogger, I am splitting up my visit into a few different blogs. But first, a disclaimer.

 photo F346FF2D-473D-4CA8-ACC4-A1B7F9777DA6-4928-000001F6B765FD06_zps11733592.jpg

More than a year ago I found Raven's blog through a couple of other blogs that I follow. I have to be honest, at first I wasn't hooked. A mommy blogger that I probably didn't have anything in common with? No thanks. But, one day I read a guest post she did on another blog and I thought she was pretty funny, so I added her to my reader and gave it a shot. A couple of months later, I added her on FB, and one day I decided to say hi via chat. I didn't even introduce myself, I just jumped right into a conversation like we were already friends. Weird? Maybe. But who cares?

She had just posted the blog about her mom cutting her precious child's hair while she was away on a vacation with her husband so I just asked her if she had a heart attack when the pic came through on her phone. I won her over with my humor and wit.  A few hundred messages later, and we exchanged phone numbers. A few million messages, texts, and face time phone calls later, I purchased a plane ticket to go spend 4 days with her in Tri-Cities, Washington...

I never mentioned it on here before I left because I knew I would get some flack from my family and friends, especially those that don't blog. People who don't blog never understand. People who date online understand a little bit more. I liken it to a pen-pal. We all had those when we were little, whether they were in other states or other countries. The internet just makes things easier. If you think about it, when you very first meet someone, you don't know them at all. You don't know anything about them. Maybe you meet through mutual friends, but how well does your mutual friend know them? I mean, it's not like I went to visit her a week or two after "meeting her". It was a year-long courtship.  JB thought it was weird at first, but every night he saw me giggling and texting and would say, "How's Raven?" and would sometimes get jealous that I was texting her all night instead of hanging out with him.  He trusted my judgement and knew that if I thought it was fine, it was fine.

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let's get down to business...

I think both of us were excited, but a little nervous to meet each other. I mean, what if she wasn't as awesome as I thought she was in text? When texting her about picking me up at the airport, I kept asking her if she was working on my billboard. I wanted something sparkly and bright that screamed my name at the airport so I would know where to find her. Her response? "Oh, you just wait..." I definitely didn't expect this:

 photo 4447E88F-662A-4B5E-834A-5D1F5BA26403-4928-000001F796BE1927_zps42e57f8c.jpg

As soon as I came down the escalator and saw the back of a chicken suit, I knew it was her. She was mad that I knew, but come on, who else would be cuckoo enough to wear a chicken suit at the airport? Besides that, I didn't see her anywhere and I knew she had been there for a while. When I walked up to her, there were people asking her to take her picture. She was pointing a camera at me like a freaking stalker, but wouldn't say anything. She wouldn't take off her chicken head until I threatened to hug her if she didn't reveal herself.

 photo chicken_zps9298154e.jpg

Since my free Southwest flight didn't fly into the airport closest to her house, I flew into Portland and we had a 3.5 hour drive to get through before we could even socially lubricate ourselves with a drink. The time seemed to fly by and before I knew it, we were at her sprawling mansion house with a drink in our hands.

 photo 59494_4173708541413_584315027_n_zps6a7fd27e.jpg

We had to take G-Man to school in the morning, so after saying hello to her handsome husband, Rob, and having a drink, we called it a night.

Check back on Wednesday for my recap of domestic life in Kennewick...

Currently Obsessing Over...

Todrick Hall.

Have you heard of him?  Do you know who he is?  Until about 2 days ago, I had no clue, and now I am completely and utterly obsessed.  His videos are hysterical and talent-filled (well, some of them).  Is it too much to ask to be a part of one of his flash mobs?  He's got cameos galore and it makes me wonder where he came from and how I am just now hearing about him.

Enjoy!

Living Fit

My friend just scolded me on Facebook because I haven't written a blog in forever. There is lots to catch you up on, not to mention tons more honeymoon vids and pics, but all of my pics of everything are still on my camera, so today you get this:

Jamie Eason, one of bodybuilding.com's main fitness models, has put her practices into a plan that is so easy to follow it's ridiculous!  I met her at the UFC Fan Expo in Vegas last year, and let me tell you, she looks amazing!!!  Go here to check out the program!  There are sample meal plans, recipes, and day-by-day, week-by-week workouts for 12 weeks.

Being married to a personal trainer, you would think it would be easy to stay in shape.  Not so, my friends.  Not so.  I have been begging JB for 3 years to write a program for me.  I know how to do most of the exercises, with proper form, but when I walk into the gym I need a game plan or I just do cardio or one of the classes.  Since I don't pay him with actual money, he does not work for me, so I am pretty much on my own.  That's why I was so excited about this program.  I'm not trying to get super buff, figure competition style, but I would definitely like to be more toned and maybe see an ab muscle or two.  I'd say three months of my life is worth that.

I also set up an account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/.  I was skeptical at first because food logging is always a pain no matter how good they say their database is.  The thing I love about this one is the droid app (and I'm sure the iPhone app too) has a barcode scanner!  I have scanned multiple things with it to log and it's been accurate every time!!  Makes it so much easier to log food.  You can also log water intake and exercise and depending on your goal, current height and weight, tells you how many calories you should be taking in on a daily basis to get there.

A friend (and former dance teacher) of mine decided it would be great to start a group on FB to cheer each other on and hold each other accountable and share tips and meals and whatnot.  We are only on Day 3 but we have already helped each other out with food, supplements, and clarification of some of the stuff in the plan.

Neat huh?

So why wait for New Year's to start your journey, whether it be weight loss, toning, or buidling muscle, when you can start now?  If you have followed my blog for a while, you know how much of a cheerleader I am when I really think it's a great thing.  And I REALLY think both of these things are great!

Disclaimer:  I am not being paid by either of the companies mentioned above for raving about them like a lunatic :)

Body By Groupon/Living Social

Disclaimer:  No I am not being paid to write this post.

Now, on to the rest of it...

I can't recall when I actually joined Groupon and started taking advantage of their deals.  I think it was last year when the boot camp I found at a bridal show put one out.  Since then I have come across many great deals, but mostly on fitness programs that I would otherwise be unable to afford.  It's been a great way to get back into shape and figure out what works for me and what doesn't.  The following are some of the deals I have gotten:

Downtown Adventure Boot Camp - 1 month of camp (3 days/week) for $20, normally $150
The Dailey Method (Barre Method) - 3 classes for $15, normally $18 per class
California Family Fitness - 1 month family membership, 2 personal training sessions, 4 tanning sessions for $39
Bikram Yoga - 10 class card for $25, normally $100
Prime Time Boxing - 30 minute one-on-one training session, 45 minute group session, jump rope for $25

Obviously the idea behind these deals is to get you in the door, get you interested, and get you coming back for more.  I ended up doing a few months of the downtown boot camp, a month of The Dailey Method, and a month of the Prime Time Boxing (I still haven't tried the yoga).  I might revisit some of these places once the wedding is over and we have some cash flow again.

A few months ago I stumbled upon Living Social.  This is another similar site with amazing deals.  Last week I came across a 6-week bootcamp that is actually in the area where I live.  Normally $129, the camp was on living social for only $35.  I'm using it as my last chance workout to keep me motivated before the wedding/honeymoon madness kicks in.  It started last night, so I will keep you posted on how the first week goes.  It's three days a week, so I can probably work in some cardio on my off days.

During one of my training sessions with California Family Fitness, I joked with my trainer that I had become quite the Groupon whore when it came to fitness.  He told me that I need to get a "Body By Groupon" shirt and that I should write Groupon and tell them about it.  Hmmmmm...

Are you subscribed to Groupon or something like it?  Have you scored any amazing finds?

Ask and You Shall Receive

A couple of weeks ago I sent and email to the Glamorous Newlywed for some help with outfits for my upcoming wedding events and today she posted THIS!  Go ahead, click on it.  It's amazing!  Then come back here and tell me what you think:
  • about the outfits
  • about her
  • about Polyvore
I personally think that the outifts are so cute and so affordable!!  Her sense of style is classic and super cute!  If I could hire a personal stylist, it would be her.  I just think that Polyvore is the greatest new find!  I have never seen anything like it and it just makes my life so much easier to see the outfit together with the links to buy everything from different places.

Add her to your RSS feed, you won't regret it.

I'm in LOVE!

I have finally found the one. Everything I have been looking for. It's amazing and I am ready to commit...at least for the next two months. I'm sure you are thinking I have gone mad and are wondering if I am still with JB and if you are reading my blog, you are probably smart enough to know that I am not referring to another man. I am referring to this:

I have been searching for the thing that is going to get me back to being excited about working out again. I know what I am capable of and I need the right tools to help me get there. For me, an important part of that is a workout that actually feels like a workout, but doesn't necessarily make me want to puke, Biggest Loser style. I am so fortunate to have JB to create at-home workouts for me and help me out at the gym on weekends, and I have my own things that I can do here and there, but I haven't really had anything to get me super motivated and excited about being there since boot camp last year.

The Dailey Method is amazing! According to the website,

sorry for the small font, it's an image so I couldn't just copy/paste

This class literally rocked my world. I feel like I contracted and released every single muscle in my body, even ones I didn't know I had. I wanted to the class to end, but at soon as it did, I wanted more. The problem with everything else I have found that I like, is that it's either unaffordable or doesn't work with my schedule. Or both.

This place has it all. Classes in the morning that I can make it to before work and classes that are late enough for me to make it to after work, but it's actually on my way home. Half way home, actually. It's awesome! I purchased a Groupon last month for 2 classes for the price of one and tonight was my first class. I'm sold! They have a great deal for new members for a month of unlimited classes and a discounted second month as well. As soon as we get our AmEx rebate check, I am signing up. I think Nugget's mom is going to do it with me too!

Can you tell I'm excited?

What kind of workouts do you get excited about? I love trying new things, so leave suggestions please!

OWNed

Yesterday was the launch of OWN, the new Oprah Winfrey Network. It has been on in our house all day! I am not home to watch the Oprah show and we don't tape it, but I am all about her new network. She ran a half hour show just to preview the different series that will be coming and they all look great!

Look for the channel on your guide and check it out!

Fun New Find - Blue Nami

For those of you that knew about this place and never told me, I am saddened. I thought we were friends. I LOVE sharing fun new finds with friends. I find something good an want to shout it from the rooftops.

Blue Nami (aka Blue NOMMY!!) is located in the same food center as Paul Martin's American Bistro on Eureka Road. Another great find located here, Pita Pit.

But, I digress.

Friday night I went there with a couple of my lady friends and it was a first for all of us. We talked about the fact that we are hesitant to try new sushi restaurants without having heard a great review from what we considered to be a credible source. Luckily one of the ladies had one.

The wait for a Friday night was not horrendous. They told us 30 minutes, but it was only about 20. I didn't really care for the loud club music that added to the already loud, chatty atmosphere, but it's Roseville, what can you do? The ambience was very surf's up meets Vegas, which also explains the loud club music.

We opted for a couple of appetizers to get started. The BBQ albacore is something I rarely pass on and was pleased to see that for the same price most places offer 3 or 5 pieces, Blue Nami gives you 7 pieces. They are also more cooked than raw which helps with my food texture issues. We also got the crab stuffed tempura mushrooms. I am sad I did not get pics of these, they were amazing.

We decided to each get a roll and share, so I ordered the Yummi Yummi, which is my standard go to roll (DF shrimp, crab, avocado, cream cheese) and one that looked tasty, the Yellow Belly (sesame chicken and cream cheese). I figured out later that they probably named it that because it's for people who are scared of the rolls with seafood in them. Clever. The last one we got was the Firefly (DF shrimp, crab, cilantro, cashews, avocado, lemon). This was the best of all three and we were all surprised at how the razor thin slice of lemon really made the roll. I am not a fan of cialntro and I couldn't taste it in the roll at all.

For the finale we decided to get one more interesting pick of which I do not know the name. It had DF shrimp, crab, avocado inside and was topped with a thin slice of tuna and pineapple pieces and then drizzled with a yummy sauce. I was kind of scared of this one because of the raw tuna on top, but there was nothing fishy about this roll. It was just the right amount of sweet too. Definitely a good pick. Speaking of pics, the last roll is the only one I got a pic of:

For 3 girls, we had 2 apps, 4 rolls, a glass of wine, and an iced tea. the bill was $54! So awesome. I am just sad that JB wasn't with me because he would have loved that place. I can't wait to bring him there!

Happy Anniversary - Ten 22 Review

Last Monday, the 23rd, was mine and JB's 2 year anniversary. Since it was a Monday and we both got home late (he had a client and I was at ballet) we decided that we would just use the gift card that I won to have an anniversary dinner over the weekend when we actually had time to enjoy it.

We almost forgot about it as we were lying on the couch on Sunday afternoon planning a trip to the market. We had been checking the mail all week for the card and it never came. JB checked before we left for the store and there it was! We decided to scrap the trip to the store since it was already 4:15 and I hopped in the shower so we could be down there by 6:30.

The restaurant is on 2nd street, across from the parking garage, and they validate ($5) if you park in the city garage. The sidewalks were busy with people enjoying the awesome weather, but the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived at 6:30 (the waiter noted that they had just finished with a rush of people). I found it interesting that they have a wine shop in the front of the restaurant when I am pretty sure they don't make their own wine. JB and I agreed that the space had too much of a cafeteria feel with the bright lighting and open ceilings. Would have helped if it was a bit dimmer in there.

As for the menu, I decided on the roasted chicken breast stuffed with mushroom risotto:

And JB went with the burger with pepperjack cheese, bacon, and carmelized onions with a side of sweet potato fries (BEST SWEET POTATO FRIES EVER!!!):

Obviously we both hated our meals:

Mine was way more salty than I would have preferred, but definitely yummy. All in all with our meals, a glass of wine, and two jack and cokes, our bill was only $54. Since we had the gift card, we only had to come up with $4 plus tip. Yay! Afterwards we headed elsewhere for a little dessert:

I let JB choose our dessert and he went with a raspberry cheesecake. So predictable. We split a piece, which means I had 3 bites and he ate the rest.

All in all it was a lovely evening and I would definitely suggest Ten 22 as a place to check out in Old Sacramento. It looks like it might be a great place for happy hours. I think they also do tastings on Thursday evenings.
